Welcome to Saint-Petersburg

St. Petersburg, the former capital city of the Russian Empire for over 200 years, has always been a cultural and educational centre.
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the Great on the Gulf of Finland in the Neva delta in 1703. The city's unique history is reflected in its 18th-19th century avenues, palaces and parks. The streets of the Northern capital are a wonderful combination of different architectural styles.
Our city is sometimes called 'a symphony in stone'. The islands, rivers, canals and bridges make it especially charming. In June and July, a great number of people come to the embankments of the Neva River to enjoy a spectacular view of the bridges being drawn to let the sea ships through.
The beautiful parks and palaces of St. Petersburg suburbs - Pushkin, Pavlovsk, Gatchina, Peterhof, Lomonosov, and the old part of Kronstadt - were included into the UNESCO world heritage list.

St. Petersburg State University is located in the historic centre of the city. Founded by Peter the Great in 1724, it is Russia's oldest higher education institution.

                                              The
Faculty of Philology
and Arts as a subdivision of St. Petersburg State University  offers Russian language programmes to international students. The programmes are of different length and intensity and are designed for students with different language skills and with different professional needs.
Faculty of Philology and Arts is a member of the Russian Society of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (ROPRYAL), a member of International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL).
International students who would like to study the Russian language will have a unique opportunity to visit our city during the celebration festivities, to find out more about the Russian history, and to get a first hand experience of the rich and diverse cultural life of the Northern capital.
